The employees of a San Mateo liquor store are anxiously waiting for the lucky customer who bought a lottery ticket worth $13.5 million to step forward.Liquor City, located at 1230 Hillsdale Blvd. in the Laurelwood Shopping Center, was bombarded with television crews when an employee opened the store yesterday morning. Soon after, a lottery representative stepped through the front door to deliver the official news that the store sold one of two winning tickets to Wednesday’s $27 million jackpot. The representative handed out buttons and posters that read “Millionaire made here.”The only thing missing is the millionaire.

No one stepped forward yet to claim the prize and store employees hope the lucky customer didn’t accidentally throw away or lose the ticket.Even if the mystery winner never claims the prize, Liquor City still gets to split 1 percent of the $27 million jackpot with the 7-Eleven that sold the other winning ticket in North Hollywood.

Liquor City will receive $67,000 and the federal government will collect $20,000 in taxes, said store owner Rativ Norzei. There was no shortage of wishful customers at the store yesterday. Besides TV news crews, customers flooded the store hoping their numbers were the right match.

Faces were covered with anxious anticipation as store clerk Dimitar Nenchev ran their ticket through the machine, but the most Nenchev handed out yesterday was a few dollars.

Other customers just visited to congratulate Nenchev and buy a ticket for Saturday’s $7 million jackpot.“Everyone always wonders, ‘Why not here? Why in Southern California all the time?”

Nenchev asked.Nenchev sold the winning ticket Monday, but has no idea who the mystery winner could be.Since Monday was a holiday, there were more customers and it wasn’t just the usual crowd, making it hard for Nenchev to venture a guess on who the lucky person might be. However, he sounds sure of one thing.“Maybe my finger is lucky and picks lucky numbers,” Nenchev said.

The winning numbers are 4, 10, 15, 23, 39 and the mega number is 26.
